Sibling Love

During my university experience, I often get asked if I'm close to my family. The answer is always yes, of course, but today a peculiar thought hit me when I was asked this during a chemistry study session: My siblings will never know how much I love them. Because I truly do love them in a way that I don't love anyone else in this world. They are the ones I miss the most when I'm away at school. Of course, I love my parents and miss them too, but longing to see my siblings is one that is something I can't really describe.  To put it into perspective, if everyone in this world disappeared tomorrow except me and my siblings, I wouldn't blink. If I have them, I don't need anyone else.

For those of you that don't know I have three siblings, all of who are younger than me. There's Ali who's thirteen, Sana who's about to turn 10 (tomorrow!) and Omar who's 8.  They really are the most important people in my life by far. I like to think of my immediate family as one that's very close knit. So I'm not one of those people who prefers their friends over their family. I do love my friends immensely, but they can't compare to Ali, Sana, or Omar.  Don't get me wrong though. I wasn't always this way. When I was around by pre-teen years, I would get so fed up with my siblings. My mom always told me that I'd change my mind when I got older. I didn't know what she meant until recently. I know now that they're too young to comprehend the intense appreciation I feel towards them, but I'm going to leave a short memoir for each of them on this blog. Hopefully, this will reach them when they're older and they'll be able to understand. So here it goes!

Ali: Ali and I are partners in crime. We were together for years before the other two came along, so we've mastered the art of working together to get what we want. He is literally the only person in my life that I can completely be myself around. I don't have to worry about being a certain way or saying the right things. He gets me and I'm pretty sure I get him too. Despite this already amazing quality about him, he is also very kind hearted. At nearly 6 foot, he's already taller than I can ever hope to be. However, behind all the hard exterior, he's caring and mindful of not just me, but also Sana. That's a beautiful quality for a man to have.  I love his ambition and the high goals he's set for himself in his life. I can't wait to see him reach them through his unrelenting persistence.

Sana: My sister, Sana, is beautiful. There's simply no other way to put it. I still remember when I first met her  nearly ten years ago at the hospital, I thought she was so pretty. When she got a little bit older, she was seriously the cutest little toddler ever.  She was very, very chubby and would wear little girly dresses with her boy haircut.  When she was only about 15 months old, Omar came along, so there was little time for her to be the youngest. But she's embraced the big sister role beautifully. That's the thing I love about her most: she's one of the most compassionate people I've met. Being the two girls, there's always going to be some tension between us because thats how girls are. However, I always try to be the best in everything I do because I know she looks up to me as an example to what to be, perhaps more so than the boys.

Omar: Omar and I have always been best friends. I've always been drawn to him and I think the reason is he's everything I wish I could be. That may sound odd since he's an 8 year old boy. However, allow me to explain. He's extremely intelligent. More so than I was when I was 8. Also, even at his very young age, he's very ambitious. He knows what he wants to do and how he's going to do it. He's not one of those kids that sets a out-of-the-box, fairy tale dream and then hopes they get it: Omar will really go out and get whatever he sets his mind to. For that reason, I think he will surpass us all. He's going be very, very successful. I'm so excited to see where he'll turn out. Because, you can take it from me, it's going to be somewhere super awesome.

With all my love,
Naz

Thursday Throwback

So I am getting frustrated as I through my iTunes and Spotify while I'm sitting in my living room and listening to the freezing winds blow outside. I am so sick of it all. Everything is just so overplayed! I am tired of listening to the same songs, over and over and over. There is just no good new music out there right now! Then, my iTunes shuffled to an extremely old song and my mood brightened! So I thought of this wonderful idea of having Throwback Thursdays every once in a while, where we share some tunes from back in the day (which is middle school for me since that's when I actually started listening to music besides Bollywood stuff). We could all relive some of the old memories these songs might remind us of.

For this first ever Throwback Thursday, I picked a couple songs that I hope you all enjoy.

1. I'm Like A Bird
Singer: Nelly Furtado
Album: Whoa, Nelly!
Year: 2000

This song used to be one of my favorites! I love Nelly Furtado. I wish she would come out with some new stuff. Her voice is so unique and has a spunk to it. It's hard to find this kind of music these days. Actually, it's hard to find any music that isn't club music.

2. Baby It's You
Singer: JoJo
Album: The High Road
Year: 2006

I love JoJo! She recently released a new album, but it wasn't as good as some of her old stuff. I love the beats of this song, so catchy! JoJo had so much attitude that reflected in her music. I miss this kind of attitude. She's the real definition of a Jersey girl, not Snooki.

Well, that's all for now. I should probably get more productive now. Share some of your favorite old school tunes from back in the day (whenever that may be for you) by commenting below, tweeting at us, or posting on our Facebook page here.

Thanks for listening,
Hera
